Kid’s Crossing is a ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Canton, Texas. Kid’s Crossing, as with other programs of First United Methodist Church, is under the governance of the Church Council, Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) of the church, the pastors and the director. To help in this supervision, we have an Advisory Board which helps in advising the Church Council, SPRC, pastors and the director in regards to the staff, operational policy and programs of Kid’s Crossing. This board consists of both church members, parents of children enrolled in the program (church member and non-members), pastors, and director.
Our name really says it all: Kids Crossing; Canton is at the crossroads of Van Zandt County, and it has been a natural location for meeting, sharing, and swapping for over a century and a half. It is at the crossroads where new ideas are shared, and community bonds are built. Our educational philosophy is best exemplified by a single word, “Curiosity”.
As both educators and mentors, we constantly search for new ways of sharing the joys of learning with our children. We have a core program of proven age appropriate curriculum around which we try new methods where both purpose and practice fit our good senses, and educational experiences. We constantly evaluate our methods and results to determine how we can better serve our charges.
